This page offers suggestions of how individuals or organizations can run a local idle-free campaign (as a specific, standalone issue or as a component of a wider transportation or energy conservation effort) to raise awareness of unnecessary idling in the community.

Note that a local community campaign may qualify for GRANTS from organizations such as the New England Grassroots Environment Fund.

Rick Gregg, Chairman of the "Idle-Free" Campaign of the American Lung Assoc. of MA, led a model local effort that led to the selectmen of Lenox, MA to adopt an ordinance on vehicle idling.
Rick Gregg has been a community grassroots idling activist for many years. In 2001 he undertook an effort to make his local community of Lenox, Massachusetts idle-free. Since then, as "Idle-Free" Chairman of the American Lung Assoc. of MA, he has had an effect on the statewide level, helping to coordinate and be a part of the Massachusetts Dept. of Environmental Protection idle-reduction workshops. This effort has led to more than a 40 grantees across the state receiving DEP funds to develop community-based idling reduction programs.
