| REBECCA RYAN. Rebecca is Director, Health Promotion & Public Policy, American Lung Association in Vermont. She has for many years been a tireless advocate for healthy air. In her position with the American Lung Assoc., she promotes several healthy air initiatives around tobacco smoke, outdoor wood boilers and vehicle idling--with an emphasis on commercial diesel idling. While idling is seen as a multifaceted issue that contributes to climate change, wastes energy and wastes money, it is recognized that the most serious concern are chemicals in idling exhaust emissions that cause respiratory illness. Rebecca is an Idle-Free VT advisor.
KAREN GLITMAN. Karen is Director of Transportation Efficiency, Vermont Energy Investment Corp (VEIC). Her extensive resume in transportation includes also having served as Program Manager of the University of Vermont Transportation Research Center and Deputy Secretary of the Vermont Agency of Transportation. This wealth of experience helps in Karen's many transportation research interests to be effective in pursuing development of sustainable transportation systems with the goal of reduction of petroleum consumption. She sees idling reduction as part of the success in achieving this goal. Karen is an Idle-Free VT advisor.
TOM MCGRATH. Since joining the University of Vermont Transportation Research Center in 2010, Tom has worked on many programs, including Eco-Driving workshops, the National Summer Transportation Institute, and the Vermont Clean Cities Coalition. Now serving as the coordinator of the Vermont Clean Cities Coalition, Tom is focused on projects that will reduce the country's consumption of transportation petroleum and increase our energy security and independence. Working with public and private organizations, as well as the general public, Clean Cities initiatives include alternative fuels, advanced-technology vehicles, and behavior changes such as anti-idling policies and vehicle miles traveled (VMT) reduction. Tom is an Idle-Free VT advisor.
WAYNE MICHAUD. Wayne is Director of the Idle-Free VT Inc. campaign. Since starting his campaign three years ago, Wayne, in his passion and zeal to get folks to shut off their engines when parked, has accomplished and learned much in running a grassroots campaign that has raised awareness among thousands of Vermonters, and joined in a coalition effort to pass idling legislation. Ongoing campaign efforts include media exposure of the issue, forming coalitions, petitioning, working with legislators, and encouraging local activism (town ordinances or resolutions and school policies). For 2010-2012, Wayne is a project coordinator of Vermont Idle-Free Fleets, a year-long, grant funded American Lung Association in Vermont regional diesel fleet operators idling reduction campaign. In 2009, Wayne was honored as the American Lung Association in Vermont's Air Quality Champion.
DON OSTLER. Don is Route Supervisor of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. He oversaw the fleet operations of the company’s 24- truck heavy-duty fleet until the company outsourced fleet operations starting in mid-2010. He was the main innovator and implementer of GMCR’s idle-reduction program begun in 2005. In 2007-2009, the program avoided use of 5,500 gallons of diesel each year (when diesel was $3.00-$3.50/gal), saving the company $16,500 and reducing carbon emissions by 61 tons--from idling reduction alone. This program also helped to earn GMCR a 2005-2006 Vermont Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence and Pollution Prevention, and is an EPA SmartWay Partnership Success Story. JOHANNA MILLER. Johanna is Outreach Director and Energy Program Coordinator, Vermont Natural Resources Council. She is an organizer, writer, editor and coalition builder at VNRC. She works with organizations, local officials, and citizens across Vermont to empower them to get involved in the energy, climate change, land use and community development issues VNRC engages. Johanna works closely with partners in the Vermont Energy and Climate Action Network to start and support town energy committees and to help build support for a more efficient and renewable energy future in Vermont.
DEBRA SACHS. Debra is Founder and Executive Director, Community Climate Action and 10 Percent Challenge.
ANDREA COHEN. Andrea is Executive Director, Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR). VBSR is a non-profit, statewide business trade organization. VBSR members are businesses and organizations who recognize that the need to make a profit and the need to make a difference are not in conflict, and who use the power of business to change the world. Andrea originally joined VBSR in the fall of 2006 as the Public Policy Program Manager. Previous to VBSR, she worked for 16 years at the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources in a variety of management positions involving pollution prevention, resource conservation, and solid waste management.
JIM FLINT. Jim was formerly Executive Director, Friends of Burlington Gardens. He has been well known locally and nationally for his long term advocacy for community and school gardening. Jim is also a strong advocate of the environmental health of the greater Burlington community, working tirelessly in his free time to improve air quality in the most densly populated region of Vermont. He has done so by having worked with such organizations as the Burlington Legacy Project, the Burlington Community & Economic Development Office and Idle-Free VT.
JENNIFER GREEN. Jennifer is Legacy Project Coordinator, Community and Economic Development Office (CEDO). She is also co-director and environmental specialist with the Burlington Legacy Project. Her responsibilties include working with city stakeholders and other community members to ensure that the vision comes to pass. She is also busy on coordinating the update of the City's Climate Action Plan. She has a masters in public administration and a PhD in environmental sociology. She also lectures at UVM.
DANIEL HOVISS. Daniel is the Town of Putney Energy Coordinator. He is also chairperson of the Putney Energy Committee. Formed in 2006, PEC is an ad-hoc organization of volunteers - part of a growing number of energy groups across Vermont and the nation. All of these groups share one goal - diminishing the effect of Climate Change - by creating new ways of saving energy and reducing our energy usage through recycling, conservation and the replacement of non-renewable with renewable energy sources.
ERIK FILKORN. Eric is a Town of Richmond selectboard member.
LAURA ASERMILY. Laura is the Town of Middlebury Energy Coordinator. In 2007 she spearheaded the successful effort to get an idling reduction resolution adopted for Middlebury. Laura is a tireless advocate of all things energy conservation and alternatives, and of preserving our environment. She has spearheaded local efforts including Way To Go, MAGWAC (Middlebury Area Global Warming Action Coalition), and manager of the Acorn Energy Co-op in Middlebury. Laura was winner of the 2009 Spirit in Nature prestigious Eco-Spirit award. Laura is an advisor to Idle-Free VT.
DAVID POLOW. David is a lawyer in the law firm of Polow Polow & Mahoney, Hyde Park, Vermont. He has for years been a strong advocate of eliminating unnecessary vehicle idling, emphasizing Vermont's unattended motor vehicle law (vehicles must be shut off while parked unattended in public). David has testified on several occasions in support of idling reduction bills in the legislature and successfully lobbied the Morristown School District, Lamoille County for adoption of the optional model policy in Vermont's school bus idling rule for vehicles other than school buses on school property. David is an Idle-Free VT advisor.
VIRGINIA "GINNY" ELLIOTT. Ginny, of East Burke, Caledonia County, has a strong interest in educating about energy, especially energy conservation. She works with the Vermont Energy Education Program (VEEP). Most of her efforts in energy education are concentrated from St. Johnsbury north to towns in Essex and Orleans counties. Ginny clearly sees the waste of energy in parked idling vehicles. She has been a no idling advocate for many years and does her best to educate locally in the business and school communities, and directly with individuals. DENIS RYDJESKI. A Vermont native, Denis completed his university studies at Purdue, Columbia, and the California Institute of Technology. His career has taken him to Latin America as a consutant, the NYSE as a corporate executive and information technology expert, and to Africa with the United Nations. Retired, Denis and his life-long partner Betsy Eldredge reside in the Upper Valley and teach in Dartmouth College's Athletic Department. They also spend time as volunteers in several advocacy roles with non-profit organizations including Amnesty International, Population Connection, and the Sierra Club. Denis is an Idle-Free VT advisor and has repeatedly helped make possible funds from the Sierra Club for printing of Idle-Free VT flyers that are offered to Vermont motorists in the DMV's office locations around the state. Denis is an Idle-Free VT advisor.
